When a personalized order reaches Shopify, the order record alone is not enough for production. Your team needs a file that can actually be printed, plus a preview that shows what the customer approved.

Order notes are not production files

A note like "black logo on white shirt" does not describe exact placement, scale, safe area, or side. A production workflow should preserve the design state and connect it to the Shopify order.

What print-ready output should include

  • High-resolution artwork placed inside the configured print area
  • A smaller customer preview for quick review
  • Separate front and back files when needed
  • Order number and product data connected to each file

Reducing file loss and manual work

The safest setup links a design token, preview URL, and print file URL to the order. This keeps the production team from mixing files between orders and reduces repetitive support work.

PrintLab's approach

PrintLab stores customer designs with the order and gives merchants production-ready files from the admin. Optional Google Drive backup can also copy order files into the merchant's own Drive folder.
